~ Hill Country Morning

Available now at Art166.com!

Early morning in the Texas Hill Country --

Today, we tumble back to earth . . .

Even I can't spend all my time with my head in the skies!

* * *

I very much enjoyed all the great conversation generated by my last post. I'm honored that so many of you are willing to join me on my many flights of fancy.

Thanks, guys!

I can't wait for tonight's premiere of "Friday Night Lights" on NBC. Not being a great fan of football, I wasn't originally very interested in this show. However, the gorgeous previews and great reviews I've read have completely won me over.

Monday night's "Heroes" has zoomed right to the top of my "must see" list, and I could use a great Tuesday night follow-up. "Friday Night Lights" could be the one!

I LOVE television! A great technological wasteland?

I think not!

  1. I think the internet is the great technological waste land if I do say so myself...but then again I can't seem to get enough!

As much as I like your fractals, my favorites are really your landscape images that you've subtly altered!

  2. I love your magical landscapes W.J.! The water and sky looks all golden, so pretty! OMG that new show "Heroes" was on last night and I was only half watching it but I walked in the living room and saw a close-up of one of the most grisly sick murder scenes I could never have imagined on the TV. Ummm think this is one I'm going to avoid now since it bothered me last night and that grisly scene was burned in my brain. UUUGH! I don't like blood and gore in my prime time and theres sure a lot of it in some of the new shows!

  3. Another stunning picture, btw. And I'm hooked on Heroes as well, and I was prepared to hate it given all the hype. And with Studio 60 on right afterwards, I'm going to be a TV zombie every Monday night. But don't go and confuse me by putting "Friday Night Lights" on Tuesdays... that's just wrong!

  4. A lovely pic to remind me of our drives down to san antonio and padre island. First time we drove through hill country I didn't know it and asked a local where the hills were, boy was he offended. (okay I was expecting BIG hills, I mean really BIG hills). Once I knew what to see I enjoyed them lol!

  5. ummm is anyone else addicted to Survivor in here, that's the highlight of our week on Thursday nights with pizza! aeeoooiiaaoooh, love the music and beautiful scenery shots in that show too!

  6. I echo with all the others - your landscape image is amazing, the changing colour of the sky and the water. Simply lovely.

I didn't see Heroes- which is weird, becuz I always love super heroes. if I wasn't careful- I'd probably be a comic book geek. but I am happy to have fall tv back!

  9. Thanks, Cynthia, I love doing the landscapes; I just wish I got out to those amazing locations a little more often. All the more reason for me to win the Lotto and move to a "sprawling country estate"!

  10. Hey, Lynette! We had to do some serious driving to find that hill, but it was worth it!

Yep, you'd better steer clear of "Heroes." Not only does it seem heavy on the gore (which doesn't bother me) but it seems the world is under some threat of great (nuclear?) destruction! I expect this show to push the boundaries a bit, as it's more of a real-life comic book than anything else. I love it!

Did you watch "Friday Night Lights"? I think you'd like that one -- I sure do!

  11. Come on, JM! "Friday" on "Tuesday" just adds to the interest. Ya gotta break free of that linear thinking! I'm already hooked on "Studio 60" too! Who knew the Fall Season would be so great?

Oh, and thanks for the comment on the work. That photo was taken during re-run season, natch!

  12. Hi, JB, I didn't know you'd spent time in my backyard! Sounds like you were expecting "mountains" (or, mountainous hills!). You have to drive the few hundred miles into West Texas to find those! That's definitely on my endless list of "things to do!"

  13. Welcome back, Lynette! I watched the first two seasons of Survivor. Since then, I've just peeked in, but not enough to keep track of the players. I have to say, though, that their "Social Experiment" this season has pretty much turned me off of that show. The whole idea of that was just offensive to me.

Thank goodness there are so many other viewing choices!

  14. Thanks, Fenn. It's always so hot and dry when I shoot these, I have to play with them a little to make them less harsh. It does lead to some interesting work (if I may say so, myself) and I'm glad to have them so well received!

  15. Thank you, Kat! It's been awhile since I had pizza -- that sounds good! My personal favorite is Pizza Hut Thick Crust Meat Lover's with extra cheese!

Excuse me, did someone say, "cholesterol"?

  16. Karen! You must watch it! I think they're offering free viewings on NBC.com.

    Go!

  20. wj. I lived in texas 11 years (plano, just north of dallas). we used to drive down to padre island almost every summer, and go to san antonio for weekends frequently. LOVE san antonio. I grew to love seeing hill country, but the first time I was totally perplexed lol!

  25. A beautiful picture. I've never been to Texas (other than the airport) but it makes me want to see it.
I was waiting for 'Friday Night Lights' too. I didn't get to see the whole show, but liked what I saw.
Sprinting through on Dr. John's marathon trail.

  26. I agree television is great when there is something good to watch otherwise it is a waste.

I am visiting with Dr. John who sends me to all these blogs I am to read but I am never to go alone to a strangers site (my mother said) so I am taking him with me.

  28. The older I get, the less TV I watch... I'm not sure if there's a correlation there or not. Still, I'm eagerly awaiting the season premiere of Scrubs!

Just stopping by on the Dr. John Marathon...

  29. hello.....Im here from Dr Johns list......I am so into watching dancing with the stars...have you watched it??? I am so amazed at how well they learn to dance in such a short time..also, your picture was beautiful. Very nice blog!

  30. I prefer internet- where else could you find a town with white rabbits in sweaters, flying dragons, old ladies covered in spattered pumpkin and toting a shotgun? Even television isn't that creative. Nope- no match- I'll take Dr. John's imagination any day.

  31. Hey W.J. I haven't seen "Friday Night Lights" but it looks like a really good show! Yep the gore in "Heroes" was enough to give me nightmares, I can still see that guy sitting there with his head scooped out like a cantelope and his wife eeeek I won't even mention it LOL, I'm a wimp when it comes to TV gore! :O

  32. I barely watch TV. I'm far too busy doing culturally relevant things -- like tonight for instance -- jogging my heart out in the Dr. John Blogathon.
